Professional
John Barth has spent the bulk
of his career in journalism - on air and on the Internet - as a writer,
reporter, editor, anchor and producer.
Audible.com 1999 to present John is currently the Vice President for
this e-commerce web site that sells downloadable spoken word audio such
as audiobooks. He is responsible for the merchandising and look and feel
of this web site. He also directs email programs aimed at converting customers
to various subscription buying plans.
America Online 1995 to 1999 John created the AOL News channel in its
current form; he hired a professional staff of editors and did pioneering
work with The New York Times, AP, Reuters, CBS News, ABC News, NPR, Newsweek,
Time and many other smaller providers. Under John's leadership AOL News
became the most popular news site online.
The George Washington University 1998 to 2000 John taught as an adjunct
professor in the School of Media and Public Affairs. He taught Internet
News and Investigation, an introductory web journalism course, that became
the most popular offering at the school. He also advised on graduate work
and continues to serve on the council advising the journalism program
there.
Marketplace 1988 to 1995 John was part of the small team that created
this groundbreaking business program on public radio. He lead the staff
as Senior Producer through its launch to stability, and was responsible
for all daily production, domestic bureaus and documentaries.
WHYY, Philadelphia 1981 to 1988 John served as News Director and anchor/producer
of the award-winning 91-Report nightly news program. He lead a staff of
seven reporters and was a regular contributor to NPR's
All Things Considered and Morning Edition. John also served as the on-air
TV anchor for six-weeks of live coverage of the investigation into the
1985 MOVE tragedy. He covered various beats including mass transportation,
business and politics.
Business Week 1986 to 1988 John worked as a stringer for the Philadelphia
bureau, contributing material for various cover stories and tight-deadline
features.

Born and raised in Wilmington,
Delaware. My father worked
for duPont as an engineer; my mother
as a writer .
Participated in various state
and regional science competitions. Was one of the few Research Associates
of the private Mt. Cuba Astronomical
Observatory where John was involved in research into asteroids
and variable stars.

Having lived in Philadelphia,
Missouri, Minnesota, the
DC suburbs and Los Angeles, John now lives in Montclair, NJ with his wife,
the author Kirsten
Lagatree.
