      - Scenes from "Harvest of Shame"
       & "48 Hours on Crack St."
      - How visual storytelling differs from print storytelling

·        Hollywood vs. News
      - Clips from "North By Northwest" - biplane scene;
         and "In the Line of Fire" - rooftop chase scene

·        Intro to tape formats

·        Intro to editing: the Robin exercise
     - Explanation of machines

·        Students edit & screen Robin exercise

Homework: Read Glossary and practice editing

Week Two: 9/15

·        Intro to sound

·        Intro to interview editing

·        Intro to VO & PKG editing

·        Edit Levine exercise

·        Edit Nexis exercise

·        Screen Levine & Nexis

Homework: Read Glossary and practice editing

Week Three: 9/22

-Class begins at 8:30-

·        Quiz

·        Tape of Lis Berglund, NPPA Photog of the Year

·        Intro to camera

·        First shoot

·        Screen first shoot

Homework: Shoot and edit How-to (a simple piece about how something works; examples include "using the vending machine," "how to make a burger," etc)

Week Four: 9/29

-Class begins at 8:30-

·        Screen How-to

·        Intro to structure

·        On-air skills

Homework: Shoot and edit @work (a piece about a person during their work day; examples include a pizza maker, stone mason at St. John the Divine, etc)

Week Five: 10/6

·        Screen @work

·        The TV industry
       - Explanation of ratings
       - How newsrooms are structured

·        Intro to advanced interviewing

·        Intro to advanced lighting

Homework: Shoot and edit Profile

Week Six: 10/13

-Class begins at 2 p.m.

·        Screen Profile

·        Tying it all together
