Sree's Thoughts on Shopping for a Mac
Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003

If you are thinking of buying a new computer, you might be intrigued, as a lot of people are, by the provocative ads that are trying to get people to switch to Apple from traditional PCs. These are, in my opinion, some of the best produced tech ads in a long time and make a simple point: Apples are easier to use and are more fun. (the old "think different" ads were too vague).

It is mostly true: Apples do work easily and have true "plug-and-play" capability. With most PCs, you need to download special software to make digital cameras and other gadgets work. With an Apple, plug in the right camera and it is recognized right away. Same is true for almost all other multimedia gadgets you might want to use. Also, unlike PCs, there aren't that many choices from this one manufacturer, so it's less confusing. I also believe Macs look better and have more coolness value. So why would you not switch?

The biggest drawback of Macs is that because their marketshare is still small, a lot of the software products, games, etc, are not released immediately for Macs.

An old problem with Macs was that switching from PCs was difficult, since most of the rest of the world doesn't use them. But now compatibility is less of an issue.

So if you are tired of the various problems that PCs routinely cause, you might want to consider switching. And here is Apple's page that helps you consider the options (and watch those ads again).
