When you are shopping for a home, nothing beats visiting every house and slamming doors and kicking walls. But the Internet is a good place to do your research for finding leads and learning about how the housing game works.

Here are some sites to visit:

  • HUD's Buying Site: A terrific government site that teaches you the basics of home buying.
  • HomeBuyingGuide.org: This is a simple site from Fannie Mae that allows you to download a printed primer on home buying - in multiple languages.
  • Homebuying.About.com: Excellent site for all things dealing with home purchase and selling. Be sure to visit it.
  • Realtor.com: This is the site of the nation's largest professional realtors' group - plenty of useful tips and ideas.
  • Bankrate.com: One of the most confusing things about buying a home is understanding mortgages. So this is the site I turn to: explains everything step by step. Don't miss this!
