Sree's Thoughts on Last-Minute Mother's Day Gift Ideeas
Friday, May 9, 2003

It's Friday and you still haven't had a chance to get Mom something? Here are some ideas.

  • TRY E-MAIL GIFT CERTIFICATES
If mom uses e-mail, try this. B
asically, she gets a code that can be used when shopping on the site to redeem the value of the gift.
SharperImage.com - gifts are women of all ages; denominations start at $25 and go up to $500 each.
Amazon.com - much, much more than books these days.
Giftcertificates.com - you can choose specific stores, or get what they call a "Super Certificate" which works across dozens of different sites.
  • INTRODUCE HER TO DAILYCANDY.COM
Not quite a gift in the traditional sense, but it's something she will love because she will end up thinking of you year-round. This site offers all kinds of neat tips, ideas, suggestions, cool things to do, and more. Every woman I know who's tried it swears that this is one of her favorite sites. Each day, she will get one e-mail message covering topics like fashion, beauty, arts and culture, etc. Tell her to go to the site and sign up for the free daily messages.
  • FOLLOW UP WITH GIFTEES: I have found that people don't expect to receive such online gift certificates (almost like free money!), so in many cases, they ignore the e-mail, thinking it is spam or junk e-mail. So what I do is send my own e-mail in advance saying, "Hello, you are about to receive a gift certificate via e-mail from such-and-such store, please use it." The stores love it if your friends don't cash the certificate -- after all, you've already spent the money. To be fair, companies like Amazon do try to make it clear the certificates are not spam, buy putting in notes like "Don't Delete This Message!"
