It's time for my annual look at the NYC.gov site. Having spent some time looking at the official site of New York City and comparing it to those of several other major cities in the US and elsewhere, I believe it continues to set the highest standards in terms of usefulness and resources.
Among the good features introduced or improved over the past year:
- My Neighborhood: A mapping tool that gives you a snapshot of useful stats and other information in a variety of categories, including city life, education, elected officials, transportation and neighborhood statistics.
- City Life: This enhanced section has links to activities all over the city.
- Health Insurance Access: Information about health insurance.
- Correspond/Complain/Request a Service: Easy-to-use service to find who you can address an issue with.
- HPDonline: Access information about residential buildings, including violation - from the Dept of Housing Preservation and Development.
- Doing Business with NYC Agencies: Just as it sounds - and tips to help you.
Old standbys like paying your parking tickets and your real estate taxes, or reporting potholes are still there, of course.
Here is my 2003 review and my 2002 review.
