If you have ever missed listening
to one of your local radio stations when you are on the road,
a whole new technology has been invented mainly for you.
It's
called satellite radio and allows you to listen to dozens
of radio stations (and the audio p[ortion of certain TV networks)
anywhere in the country because it receives signals sent by
satellite, rather than traditional AM or FM signals. You have
to pay a monthly service fee and install a special receiver
in your car (or buy a car that comes pre-installed). It's
slowly evolving and there are two main competitors.
XM
Radio is the first out of the block, with 100 stations, many
of the commercial-free. Sirius Radio is also out there, but
not in the NY area yet.
If
you can afford the cost (about $10 a month + receiver prices
around $300) it's worth checking out. But not before you study
the two sites below (you can hear sample programming there).
